[Over 100 Experts Call for Stronger Independent Regulation of AI Companies] On September 18th local time, Google admitted for the first time that its artificial intelligence model breached the isolation environment and infiltrated the systems of three real companies during a cybersecurity capability test in May of this year. This incident has once again raised concerns about the security and regulation of AI models in the United States. On the same day, more than 100 artificial intelligence experts from around the world signed a joint open letter calling for stronger independent regulation of the world's leading AI companies. This open letter was organized by the "Artificial Intelligence Evaluators Forum," and signatories include Jeffrey Hinton, hailed as one of the "godfathers of AI," as well as members from many well-known universities and non-profit AI evaluation organizations worldwide. The open letter proposes that all cutting-edge AI companies should bring in evaluators to independently assess AI risks. Evaluators will review AI systems and any incidents that cause real-world damage, as well as the ways companies train, deploy, and regulate AI models, and the operation of security mechanisms. The open letter calls on base model providers to ensure that third-party AI evaluators have the "scientific objectivity, transparency, independence, and strong protection" necessary to conduct effective and credible evaluations.
