The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) pointed out that global debt is currently at a record high, urgently requiring countries to take fiscal measures to address the issue. The IMF stated that governments must further intensify efforts to reduce fiscal deficits and manage the historically high global debt. "We have consistently called on all parties to promote fiscal consolidation, and everyone understands this, but the actual actions taken are insufficient," IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York on Sunday. According to the agency's statistics, driven by a sharp increase in US debt, global public debt as a percentage of GDP is expected to exceed 100% by 2029, two years earlier than previously anticipated. "We have been advising the US to pay attention to its own fiscal situation," she said. "From our communication with Secretary Bessant, it seems the US has realized that its current fiscal situation is unsustainable and that it needs to gradually reduce its deficits and debt."
