[Australia to Run for Non-Permanent Membership on UN Security Council] Australian Prime Minister Barnes announced at the UN headquarters in New York on September 20 that Australia will officially run for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2029-2030 term, simultaneously launching its campaign to vie for one of the two seats in its regional group.
