[UK 10-Year gilt yield falls to 5.25% as oil prices decline] ⑴ The yield on UK 10-year gilts fell to 5.25%, still below the 19-year high reached earlier this month, as Brent crude retreated towards $100 a barrel. ⑵ Increased regional oil flows eased pressure on the physical market. ⑶ Traders slightly reduced their expectations for a Bank of England rate hike, as policymakers made it clear last week that the inflation outlook and even the interest rate outlook will largely depend on oil and gas price movements in the coming months. ⑷ The market is currently pricing in an approximately 80% probability of a rate hike at the November meeting and an approximately 56% probability of a second rate hike before the end of the year. ⑸ Meanwhile, investors are turning their attention to next month's autumn budget, with reports that the UK government is considering expanding a new property tax to cover homes valued at over £1.5 million.
