[Diesel Inventories Tighten, Storage Demand Shows Signs of Cooling] ⑴ Another sign of tight diesel supply is emerging in the storage market. ⑵ Storage brokerage data shows that refiners and traders across North America are reducing lease renewals for diesel storage facilities due to very limited available storage capacity. ⑶ The agency's chief operating officer stated that available diesel storage capacity for lease in North America and the Caribbean rose to approximately 13 million barrels in October, a four-year high, up from approximately 11 million barrels in June. ⑷ Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that as of September 11, U.S. diesel inventories had fallen to approximately 108 million barrels, the lowest level for the same period since records began in 1982. ⑸ The simultaneous decline in inventories and increase in storage capacity supply suggests that market participants expect diesel supply to remain tight at least until the first quarter of next year. ⑹ Combined with the contraction of European refining capacity and the Russian export ban, the structural tightness in the diesel market is unlikely to ease in the short term.
