[Libya's Sharara Oil Field Production Declines] ⑴ The chairman of Libya's National Oil Corporation stated that production at the country's Sharara oil field has partially declined, but did not specify the reason. ⑵ Sharara is one of Libya's largest oil fields, with a capacity of approximately 300,000 barrels per day. In recent years, it has been frequently disrupted due to protests, political disputes, and technical issues. ⑶ Since the situation changed in 2011, Libyan oil production has been repeatedly interrupted for political and technical reasons. ⑷ Just last week, production at several other Libyan oil fields halted after members of the oil facility guard shut off a valve on a key crude oil pipeline; at the time, the chairman stated that Sharara was operating normally. ⑸ Combined with tight global refining capacity and high shipping costs, the disruption to Libyan supply further increases uncertainty in the crude oil market; the recovery of its production needs to be monitored.
