A US official stated that Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, presented several options for airstrikes against Yemen to Defense Secretary Hegsays on Saturday. However, another US official indicated that Trump ultimately decided to postpone the action. Alex Plitsas, a researcher at the Atlantic Council and a former Pentagon official, told Axios, “The president changed his mind and was unwilling to open Pandora’s box by launching airstrikes, as this could lead to the Houthis jeopardizing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, creating a second bottleneck.” He added, “Once Saudi Arabia takes the lead in resolving the Houthi issue, this will cause oil prices to surge further.”
