A report released by the Inter-American Development Bank indicates that the widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is expected to boost the GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean by 5.1% within 10 years. The report also points to two different employment transformation prospects: if local workers cannot smoothly transition to the newly expanded jobs created by AI development, wages in the region may fall by 13.5% to 20.9%; however, if workers can successfully complete the job transition, local wages are expected to grow by 2.3% to 5.3%. This data also reminds the region to plan ahead for worker skills enhancement and employment service support to seize the growth dividends brought by AI development and mitigate the risks of job market volatility caused by technological iteration.
