Korkmaz Ergun, CEO of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, was recently detained as part of an investigation into the Turkish investment fund crisis. Ergun is reportedly facing investigations for alleged bribery and involvement in criminal organizations. In addition to his top management position at the Istanbul Stock Exchange, he also served as vice chairman of Takasbank, the Turkish Clearing and Custody Bank. This detention signifies the ongoing and expanding scope of the large-scale investigation into suspected manipulation of investment funds and the stock market. Besides Ergun, Ibrahim Omer Gnür, former chairman of the Turkish Capital Markets Committee, is also under investigation as a suspect in the case. The Turkish investment fund crisis erupted in September of this year, leading to the replacement of key figures in the market regulatory body. To date, the crisis has implicated several prominent figures in Turkey's financial industry.
