[Karnah Says He Will Stop Further Funding for the Iran War; Poll Shows About 70% of Respondents Advocate for Ending the Conflict First] (1) California Democratic Representative Roe Kana said he will stop providing further funding for U.S. military operations in Iran as voters become increasingly dissatisfied with the ongoing war. “I will stop funding,” he said on Fox News Sunday. “The House and Senate should stop funding any further action in the Iran war. That’s what we did to stop the Vietnam War, and now we need to stop this Iran war.” He added that if people want the Iran war to continue and want higher gasoline and diesel prices, they “should vote Republican.” (2) Kana has co-sponsored several Iran war power resolutions with Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massey. War power resolutions are a privileged parliamentary procedure in the House and Senate that allows members to bypass House Republican leaders and force a full House vote on the matter; however, despite several attempts by him and other Democrats to push for such a vote, they have not been successful. (3) In a video caption, Cana advised voters to vote for former Michigan Republican Congressman Mike Rogers to “continue the war” or for Democrat Abdul-Al-Saeed to “end the war.” He wrote on social media that Democrats could vote to zero out funding for the Iran war; in response to “Trump calling me insignificant four times yesterday,” his response was to “bring down gas and diesel prices.” (4) A recent Associated Press-NORC poll found that about 70% of respondents said lawmakers should prioritize ending the conflict with Iran. The conflict, which has lasted for more than eight months, has resulted in the deaths of 21 U.S. soldiers and cost $47 billion as of October; this estimate does not include the cost of damaged U.S. military bases in the Middle East. (5) According to MS NOW, citing three senior officials from Gulf Arab states, attacks on Iran are expected to resume after the November midterm elections, with a new round of attacks scheduled for the following day.
