The Bank of France (BFF) may lower its 2026 economic growth forecast, with Governor Emmanuel Moulin indicating that current projections are overly optimistic. Moulin revealed that after an unexpected contraction in economic activity in the third quarter, the BFF is highly likely to need to lower its 2026 economic growth forecast. The current official forecast for this year's economic growth is 0.4%, requiring a very strong fourth quarter to achieve this target. "Unfortunately, in my view, this forecast is somewhat too optimistic," Moulin stated publicly at the Jeco conference in Lyon, France. "We will inevitably make some adjustments to the forecast, a slight downward adjustment." The BFF plans to update its macroeconomic forecasts in December, after the next European Central Bank (ECB) interest rate meeting, where the market widely expects the ECB to announce its third interest rate hike since the outbreak of the Iran conflict.
