[Italy's Private Sector Expansion Slows to Five-Month Low in October] In October 2026, the S&P Global Italy Composite PMI edged down to 50.8 from 51.0 in September, the lowest level since May, indicating that private sector activity was still expanding, but at a moderate pace. This slight slowdown was mainly due to a faster contraction in manufacturing output, offsetting stronger growth in the services sector. New business continued to grow modestly, with the services sector remaining the only source of expansion. Employment also rose slightly, broadly in line with historical averages. Meanwhile, cost pressures rose to their strongest level in four years, with both manufacturing and services pushing up costs. Output-charge inflation also accelerated to its highest level since early 2023.
