[Spain Requests Assistance from Eurorail in High-Speed Train Accident Investigation] European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tsitsi Costas, stated on October 4th that Spain had requested technical support from Eurorail to assist in the investigation of the high-speed train accident that occurred on October 28th in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Assistance is already underway. Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Costas said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, and the EU will provide technical support to Spain. The October 28th accident resulted in 69 deaths and is currently being investigated by Spain's independent traffic accident investigation agency. Costas stated that two major train accidents in Spain within a year are worrying, especially given the casualties. He said the European Commission will continue to monitor member states' implementation of EU rail safety rules. Costas also called for the rapid deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System on all railway lines to improve the safety of the European rail network. (Xinhua)
