[Schroder Economist: Bank of England's Rate Hike Was Passive, Peak Rates May Be Lower Than Market Expectations] ⑴ Schroder's chief economist stated that the Bank of England was reluctantly dragged into raising interest rates by the global rate hike cycle driven by imported energy inflation, but this is not the beginning of aggressive tightening. ⑵ The economist believes that domestic inflation in the UK will ultimately remain relatively moderate, and there is still spare capacity in the economy. ⑶ He stated that despite recent improvements in growth and labor market data, UK interest rates are expected to peak at 4.25%, well below the path currently priced in by the market.
