The Paraguayan Senate on June 6 rejected President Peña Nieto's request to postpone his self-defense in Congress for 72 hours, proceeding with the impeachment process as scheduled. Peña Nieto had submitted his resignation on June 5, triggered by the crisis arising from the seizure of the country's largest digital bank, Vino Bank, with the initial intention of avoiding impeachment. However, the resignation failed to pass because the required quorum in Congress was not reached. Congress subsequently initiated impeachment proceedings against Peña Nieto, and according to established procedure, he was required to personally appear in Congress on the morning of June 6 to defend himself.
