[US Crewed Lunar Orbiter Returns to Earth] On the afternoon of April 10th local time (morning of April 11th Beijing time), the Orion spacecraft, carrying out the US Artemis 2 crewed lunar orbit mission, splashed down in the ocean near San Diego, California. The Orion spacecraft, carrying four astronauts, jettisoned its service module containing the main rocket system and entered the atmosphere at approximately Mach 32, with external temperatures soaring to a high of 2760 degrees Celsius. The spacecraft also experienced approximately six minutes of radio communication interruption, known as "blackout." Before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean, parachutes deployed from the free-falling nose of the spacecraft, slowing its descent to approximately 27 kilometers per hour. The Artemis 2 crewed lunar orbit mission, launched on April 1st local time, used the US's next-generation lunar rocket, the Space Launch System, and the Orion spacecraft to send four astronauts to lunar orbit. The mission lasted 10 days. The latest mission schedule shows that the United States plans to conduct the Artemis 3 mission in 2027 to test systems and operational capabilities in low Earth orbit; and the Artemis 4 lunar landing mission in 2028.
