[Shenzhou-21 Crew to Conduct First In-Orbit Space Science Experiment with Rodents] This morning (October 30th), a press conference for the Shenzhou-21 manned space mission was held at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The spokesperson introduced that, according to plan, the Shenzhou-21 astronaut crew will conduct 27 new scientific and applied projects during their time in orbit, mainly focusing on in-depth and systematic research into key scientific issues in multiple fields such as space life sciences and biotechnology, aerospace medicine, space materials science, microgravity fluid physics and combustion, and new aerospace technologies. Among these, the first in-orbit space science experiment with rodents will be conducted. Four mice (two females and two males) will be used, carried aboard the spacecraft and kept in orbit, focusing on the effects of weightlessness, confinement, and other space conditions on the mice's behavioral patterns. Afterwards, they will return to Earth with the spacecraft to conduct further scientific research, exploring the stress response and adaptive changes of multiple organs and tissues in the mice under space conditions. The project will also conduct research on the relationship between the origin of the genetic code and chirality in the space environment, exploring the selectivity between different chiral combinations of amino acids and nucleosides, and investigating the influence of molecular chirality and the gravitational environment on the chiral origin of biomolecules. In addition, Shenzhou-21 also carried out several onboard projects for space applications, including in-situ research on the electrochemical and optical properties of lithium-ion batteries and experiments on an on-orbit intelligent computing platform for the space station. These projects will provide a basis for subsequent scientific research and further lay the foundation for on-orbit applications. (CCTV News)
