[Citi: Revised European Automotive Emissions Regulations Show EU Still Prioritizes Carbon Reduction Over Competitiveness] Citi analysts point out that the EU's revised emissions regulations for European automakers demonstrate that the EU still prioritizes carbon reduction over competitiveness. The plan lowers the previously set target of 100% CO2 reduction by 2035 to 90%. Citi believes any changes to EU regulations are positive, but also notes that the EU is clearly advancing its environmental agenda at the expense of the competitiveness and jobs in the EU automotive industry. Citi adds that this contrasts sharply with the support given to their counterparts by the US and Chinese governments. "Many investors have already concluded that the EU automotive industry is 'not worth investing in' compared to its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) counterparts in the US and China, and we believe these changes in the EU will not change that conclusion." Shares of Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis all fell by 0.5% to 0.7%.
