Australia's current account deficit widened to A$21.1 billion in the fourth quarter, far exceeding market expectations, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday. The deficit was significantly higher than the market forecast of A$16.5 billion and the revised figure of A$18.3 billion in the previous quarter, as businesses paid more dividends overseas. However, net exports only dragged down GDP by 0.1 percentage points in the fourth quarter, significantly lower than analysts' previous forecast of 0.3 percentage points.
