[India Resumes Purchasing Iranian Crude Oil to Cope with Supply Disruptions Caused by Middle East Conflict] (1) India’s Petroleum Ministry said on Saturday that Indian refiners have purchased Iranian crude oil as the Middle East conflict disrupts supplies to the Strait of Hormuz. India has not received crude oil from Iran since May 2019, after halting purchases under pressure from the United States; however, the supply disruptions caused by the US-Israel war against Iran have severely impacted India, and the United States temporarily lifted sanctions on Iranian oil last month to alleviate the shortage. (2) The Indian Petroleum Ministry said on the social media platform X that Indian refiners have secured their crude oil needs, including supplies from Iran, amid supply disruptions in the Middle East, and there are no payment barriers to importing Iranian crude oil. The ministry added that India has secured all its crude oil needs for the coming months, and companies can flexibly purchase from more than 40 countries based on commercial considerations. (3) India also purchased 44,000 tons of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which was transported by a sanctioned vessel. The Petroleum Ministry said the ship docked at the western port of Mangalore on Wednesday and is currently unloading fuel.
