[Two Oil Refineries and a Thermal Power Plant in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, Damaged by Ukrainian Drone Attack] ⑴ Gleb Nikitin, governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, stated on the 5th that two oil refineries and a thermal power plant in the oblast were damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack. Initial reports indicate no casualties. ⑵ Nikitin posted on social media that Russian air defense forces shot down 30 Ukrainian drones over the industrial area of the Kstovo district in the oblast on the evening of the 4th. ⑶ Debris from the crashed drones affected two facilities of the Russian energy company Lukoil, causing fires. The fires are now under control. ⑷ Nikitin also stated that the attack caused varying degrees of damage to a thermal power plant and some residential buildings. This attack is unrelated to the Middle East conflict, but given the already strained global energy supply chain due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade, any additional damage to energy facilities could exacerbate market sensitivity regarding supply.
