[Eurozone Construction PMI Falls to 44.6, a Five-Month Low] ⑴ In March 2026, the S&P Global Eurozone Construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell to 44.6 from 46.0 in February, marking the worst contraction since October 2025 and extending the industry's recession into nearly four years. ⑵ France led the decline, recording its largest drop in 18 months, followed by Italy and Germany. By sector, commercial construction suffered the most severe decline, followed by residential construction, while civil engineering also contracted, albeit at a slightly slower pace. ⑶ New orders fell at the fastest pace in five months, and job cuts accelerated to a four-month high. Input cost inflation rose to its highest level since November 2022, driven by material shortages, transport delays, and soaring raw material and energy prices, pressured by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. ⑷ Meanwhile, business confidence in the sector hit its lowest point since 2026, reflecting growing pessimism within the industry.
