[Shipping Companies Say Ceasefire Won't Solve Immediate Crisis; Merchant Ships Remain Hesitant to Pass Through the Strait of Hormuz] ⑴ The situation in the Middle East continues to impact shipping and supply chains. Approximately 1,000 ships remain stranded in the region, including six belonging to Hapag-Lloyd Shipping. None of the company's vessels have passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The crisis is incurring additional weekly costs of approximately $50-60 million. The company stated that it has no choice but to pass on some of these costs to its customers. ⑵ While the ceasefire news is positive, our network will need at least 6 to 8 weeks to return to normal. Although the market is enthusiastically celebrating the ceasefire news, the actual situation on the ground remains highly uncertain. Moreover, it appears that a large number of merchant ships will remain cautious and unwilling to attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. We may only see the passage volume increase from 6-7 ships per day to around 10-20 ships per day.
