[UK Construction PMI Rises to 45.6 in March, Less Than Expected] ⑴ The S&P Global UK Construction PMI rose to 45.6 in March 2026, down from 44.5 previously, continuing a more than year-long monthly contraction in the sector, but higher than the market consensus of 43.9. ⑵ The survey showed that operating margins remained under pressure due to a sharp acceleration in input cost inflation. Companies cited the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East as driving up the prices of energy and raw materials used in projects. ⑶ Residential construction activity declined further to 38.2; while the contraction in civil engineering (44.8) and commercial construction (47.1) slowed. Looking ahead, business confidence continues to decline, but companies remain confident in new orders from energy sector clients.
