[Vance Visits Hungary to Support Orbán; Hungarian Opposition Warns Against "Interference" in Election] US Vice President Vance expressed his support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's re-election during a rally in Budapest, the Hungarian capital, on April 7th. The Hungarian opposition, however, warned against foreign interference in the election. Hungary is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections on April 12th. Orbán, who has been in power since 2010, will seek re-election. Observers generally believe this is the most challenging election Orbán has faced since taking office. Vance attended the event with Orbán, telling thousands of Orbán supporters that US President Trump and he himself stand "shoulder to shoulder" with Orbán. He praised Orbán's policies and encouraged Hungarian voters to actively participate in the parliamentary elections and "support Orbán." At the same time, Vance again publicly criticized EU policies, calling on the Hungarian people to resist "European bureaucracy." Vance accused the EU and Ukraine of interfering in the Hungarian election but provided no evidence. Vance's actions have angered the Hungarian opposition. Orban's opponent in the election, Péter Maujór, leader of the Tisza Party, posted on the social media platform X: "This is our country. Hungary's history is not written in Washington, Moscow, or Brussels—but in the streets and squares of Hungary." (Xinhua)
