The World Bank's South Asia Update report indicates that South Asia's economic growth rate is projected to slow from 7.0% in 2025 to 6.3% in 2026, influenced by global energy market volatility. While recent surges in oil and gas prices have provided a short-term boost, Russia's economic growth is expected to slow to 0.8% in 2026. India's economic growth rate for fiscal year 2026/27 is projected at 6.6%, higher than the previous forecast of 6.3%. Under the baseline scenario of a significant but temporary increase in energy prices, economic growth in emerging market and developing economies in Europe and Central Asia will slow significantly in 2026.
