The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. crude oil inventories rose by 3.081 million barrels last week, far exceeding market expectations of a 701,000-barrel increase. U.S. crude oil imports fell by an average of 758,000 barrels per day last week, distillate fuel inventories fell by 3.144 million barrels (compared to market expectations of a 1.523 million-barrel decrease), and gasoline inventories fell by 1.589 million barrels (compared to market expectations of a 1.403 million-barrel decrease). U.S. refinery capacity utilization fell by 0.1 percentage points last week.
