Data released by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on March 8 showed that the average temperature in the continental United States reached 10.47 degrees Celsius, the hottest March in 132 years of record-keeping, and 5.19 degrees Celsius above the 20th-century normal for March. Both the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service and NOAA predict a super El Niño event will develop in the coming months, leading to further temperature increases.
