[Satellite Images Show Smoke Rising from Key Saudi Oil Facility, Supplying 5% of Global Oil] (1) New satellite images from the European Space Agency show thick black smoke rising from Saudi Aramco's core Abqaiq processing facility. Earlier reports indicated that Iran launched the attack on Wednesday. (2) The Abqaiq plant is the world's largest crude oil stabilization unit, supplying approximately 5% of global oil. The facility is responsible for processing sour crude oil into sweet crude oil. (3) The processed crude oil is transported to the east and west coasts of Saudi Arabia via the East-West Pipeline. Due to severe trade disruptions caused by the Iranian war, this pipeline is one of only two routes bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
