On Thursday, the next-day electricity price in Japan's Kansai region surged to 23.06 yen per kilowatt-hour, the highest level in over a year. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts cloudy or rainy weather across much of the country, including western Japan, on Friday. This could dampen solar power generation and put upward pressure on spot electricity prices. Kansai Electric Power Company also shut down the Takahama No. 3 nuclear reactor this week as planned for maintenance, reducing grid supply and further pushing up spot market prices.
