[German industrial output unexpectedly declined in February; energy price shock may further drag down output] (1) Data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany showed that industrial output fell by 0.3% month-on-month in February, while the market expected an increase of 0.5% (January data was revised upward to flat). (2) The decline was mainly dragged down by the decline in output in the construction, electronics and optical products and pharmaceutical industries; in contrast, automobile production increased after a sharp decline in January. (3) The energy price shock from the Middle East conflict is expected to further drag down industrial output.
