[World Bank lowers 2026 Latin American economic growth forecast to 2.1%] (1) The World Bank has lowered its forecast for economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2026, mainly due to long-standing structural challenges in the region, as well as high borrowing costs, weak external demand, geopolitical tensions and persistent inflation. (2) In its latest "Latin America and Caribbean Economic Update," the World Bank forecasts the region's economic growth rate to be 2.1% in 2026, down from 2.4% in 2025 and also down from the 2.5% forecast in October last year. (3) The report notes that private consumption remains the main driver of demand in the region.
