CFTC Commitment of Traders Report: Gold bulls retreat, crude oil positions increase against the trend.

As of the week ending April 7, oil speculators increased their net long positions in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil by 5,520 contracts to 109,227 contracts. Speculators also reduced their net long positions in the four major natural gas markets—NYMEX, ICE, and the New York Mercantile Exchange—by 30,476 contracts to 52,396 contracts.
As of the week ending April 7, speculators increased their net short positions in the CME S&P 500 by 12,328 contracts to 228,259 contracts; equity fund managers increased their net long positions in the CME S&P 500 by 27,168 contracts to 939,849 contracts.
As of the week ending April 7, speculators increased their net short positions in 2-year U.S. Treasury futures on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) by 74,691 contracts to 1,712,015 contracts; increased their net short positions in 10-year U.S. Treasury futures on the CBOT by 39,561 contracts to 823,624 contracts; and reduced their net short positions in 5-year U.S. Treasury futures on the CBOT by 33,911 contracts to 1,552,929 contracts.
As of the week ending April 7, net short positions in the Japanese yen were -93,742 contracts, in the euro -7,541 contracts, in the British pound -56,354 contracts, and in the Swiss franc -30,694 contracts.
As of the week ending April 7, speculators on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) cocoa futures increased their net short positions by 626 contracts to 33,973 contracts; speculators on the ICE cotton market increased their net long positions by 10,162 contracts to 38,905 contracts; speculators on ICE raw sugar increased their net short positions by 7,438 contracts to 106,492 contracts; and speculators on the ICE coffee market reduced their net long positions by 2,647 contracts to 15,366 contracts.
As of the week ending April 7, Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) wheat speculators increased their net short positions by 5,197 contracts to 64,062 contracts, while CBOT corn speculators reduced their net long positions by 43,468 contracts to 89,488 contracts. CBOT soybean speculators reduced their net long positions by 23,772 contracts to 97,277 contracts.
