[Liquefied Gas and Chemical Tankers Lead the Way, First Passengers Enter Strait of Hormuz for Test Navigation] ⑴ Real-time data from ship tracking agency Marine Traffic on Saturday showed that a mixed fleet consisting of four liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and several product tankers and chemical tankers successfully departed the Persian Gulf and transited the Strait of Hormuz. ⑵ This is the first commercial fleet to be publicly tracked and completely transit through this crucial waterway since Iran announced the conditional opening of the strait, marking the first time that the "nominal opening" has translated into actual transit. ⑶ The fleet consisted mainly of LPG carriers and chemical tankers. The fact that these high-value, high-risk cargo types were the first to test the waters suggests a clear stratification in shipowners' assessments of the waterway's safety, while oil tankers are still observing and awaiting clearer safety clarification. ⑷ The tracking system simultaneously monitored more oil tankers approaching the strait entrance from the Persian Gulf, indicating a cautious recovery pattern of small-scale convoys paving the way first, followed by a gradual increase in capacity. (5) As a key Iranian export commodity and a crucial source of petrochemical raw materials for Asia, the substantial opening of its transportation routes will initially alleviate expectations of tight supply of propane and butane raw materials in the Far East. (6) Whether the current passage fully aligns with Iran's control premise of "must follow designated routes and obtain authorization" remains to be verified. If the convoy's passage does not trigger US interception or intervention by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the number of crude oil and condensate tankers following suit may gradually increase. (7) With only about three days left until the ceasefire expires on Wednesday, the successful passage of the liquefied gas convoy has injected limited optimism into the shipping market. However, with US destroyers still patrolling the Arabian Sea, the recovery of the willingness of fully loaded crude oil tankers to pass remains to be seen.
