[US Streaming Alliance Pressures Congress for Retaliatory Tariffs on Canadian Fees] ⑴ A coalition of US digital companies is urging the House Ways and Means Committee to push forward a proposed bill requiring the Office of the US Trade Representative to investigate Canada's online streaming rules and, if necessary, respond with retaliatory tariffs. ⑵ The coalition, called the Streaming Innovation Alliance, stated that Canadian regulators' decision to significantly increase fees on the domestic revenue of US streaming companies to fund local programming is a "regressive, unacceptable, and discriminatory" policy. ⑶ In a letter to the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the coalition stated that coordinated action from the legislative and executive branches is needed to prevent Canada from launching further harmful and costly attacks on US innovators and to deter other countries from following suit.
