The Trump administration has introduced a new rule requiring foreign nationals to return to their home countries to apply for U.S. green cards. Previously, foreign nationals residing in the U.S. who wished to apply for permanent residency had to return to their country of origin to complete the necessary procedures. Zach Kahler, a spokesperson for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), stated in a statement on Friday: “From now on, foreign nationals temporarily residing in the U.S. who wish to obtain a green card must return to their country of origin to submit their application, unless there are exceptional circumstances.” Kahler added, “This policy ensures that our immigration system operates according to the intended goals of the law, rather than encouraging opportunistic exploitation of legal loopholes.”
