U.S. Defense Secretary Peter Hegses revealed that U.S. airborne and rapid reaction forces are on standby and ready to deploy to the Middle East as part of Operation Iron Shield, protecting U.S. bases and citizens from threats posed by Iranian-backed armed forces. The deployment also includes the option of using the HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) to assist in sinking Iranian naval vessels. Hegses quipped, "I know the Army has always had the idea of sinking ships—now the Iranian Navy is the only naval force you're allowed to strike."
