[Three LNG Tankers Successfully Pass Through Strait of Hormuz Despite Near-Complete Closure] (1) Despite the near-complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, three tankers carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) successfully passed through the waterway recently, carrying supplies from Qatari and UAE suppliers to major buyers. (2) Ship tracking data shows that the tanker “Al Rayyan” was anchored near Ras Lafan, Qatar, around May 22 and lost signal at one point, before reappearing on Monday north of Muscat, Oman; the tanker “Fuwairit” stopped sending signals while partially passing through the strait and then reappeared north of Muscat, heading towards Pakistan. (3) Another LNG tanker loaded at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s Das Island has also left the Strait of Hormuz and was spotted heading towards India over the weekend. Since the outbreak of war in late February, Persian Gulf LNG exporters have been trying to remove fuel stranded in the region.
