[Iran Says Retaliation Could Extend to Indian Ocean if Attacked Again] Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, warned on May 24 that if the United States insists on launching a new round of military strikes, Iran will break its previous restraint and forbearance, and its retaliation will not only cover the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, but will further extend to the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and even the Indian Ocean. Rezaei also stated that historical experience has proven that control of the Strait of Hormuz is a "legitimate and crucial right" for Iran to ensure its national security, and that managing the Strait of Hormuz is Iran's "legitimate right." Iran's "management" of the strait is not to obstruct free trade, but to prevent insecurity and military intrusion. Iran will respond sternly to any "hostile acts" that violate the Strait of Hormuz or enter the Persian Gulf. If "hostile acts" continue, one of Iran's "strategic options" is to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. (CCTV)
