[Codelco Union Threatens to Protest Back Bonuses] (1) One of the largest unions at Codelco, Chile's state-owned copper company, has vowed to resist any attempt to return bonuses. (2) The consequences of the company's overstatement of copper production continue to unfold. It was previously discovered that last year's production figures were overstated by approximately 2%, resulting in over 6,000 workers, executives, and professionals receiving an additional $14 million in bonuses. (3) Hernán Guerrero, president of the Sindicato Chuquicamata union, which represents approximately 1,300 workers, said they would protest if the company demanded the return of bonuses linked to last year's production targets. He stated, "We met our production targets, and not a single penny will be returned."
