[ECB Overnight Deposits Reach €2.19 Trillion, Market Risk Aversion Remains Strong] ⑴ Data from the European Central Bank (ECB) on Tuesday showed that overnight lending facility usage was zero, while overnight deposit facility usage reached €2,189,997 million, equivalent to approximately €2.19 trillion. ⑵ This is slightly lower than the previous day's €2,237,292 million, but still at an extremely high level, reflecting that Eurozone financial institutions prefer to deposit huge sums of money with the central bank for meager interest rather than invest in risky assets. ⑶ Meanwhile, current account holdings are €184,941 million, higher than the previous day's €172,559 million. ⑷ From a trading psychology perspective, the zero usage of the overnight lending facility for two consecutive days, coupled with the deposit facility remaining at a record high level, indicates that market risk aversion remains strong. Although expectations of a peace agreement at the beginning of the week initially boosted risk appetite, recurring geopolitical tensions have kept financial institutions highly cautious, with large amounts of idle funds remaining on central bank balance sheets, resulting in weak willingness to expand credit and allocate to risky assets.
