Wall Street stocks opened higher on Tuesday, boosted by expectations of a US-Iran agreement on the Strait of Hormuz. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.33%, as investors continued to await a potential agreement between the US and Iran on the Middle East conflict. Ten minutes after the New York Stock Exchange opened, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 166 points to 50,746; the S&P 500 was up 0.56% to 7,515; and the tech-heavy Nasdaq was up 0.76% to 26,544. The New York Stock Exchange is still closely monitoring peace talks between the US and Iran, hoping for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, even after mutual attacks in the region. The US sank two Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vessels, claiming they were attempting to mine mines in the strait. The US stated its action was defensive and that it would continue to respect the ceasefire agreement. The IRGC announced on Tuesday that it would retaliate for "violations of the current ceasefire agreement" after detecting and attacking US drones and F-35 fighter jets that entered its airspace.
