【Omdia: African smartphone market to grow moderately by 3% in Q1 2026, but environment continues to weaken】 (1) An Omdia report indicates that driven by new product launches and leading manufacturers' advance inventory build-up, the African smartphone market grew by 3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 19.9 million units. (2) Despite moderate growth, the mobile phone market environment in many African economies continued to weaken due to rising component prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and increased pressure on affordability in the sub-US$150 price segment. (3) The underlying demand in the African market still has structural resilience, stemming from increased connectivity demand, widespread adoption of digital services, and a younger, mobile-first demographic; however, worsening economic and operational pressures are posing increasing challenges to consumers and manufacturers in terms of affordability.
