[Guangzhou Futures Exchange Accelerates Development of Temperature Index Futures and Options] (1) On May 27, the National Meteorological Information Center, Fudan University, Guangzhou Futures Exchange and other institutions jointly released the temperature index for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta, with a total of 5 indices in the first batch (Greater Bay Area: daily average temperature and cooling index; Yangtze River Delta: daily average temperature, cooling and heating index). (2) Based on the temperature risk management needs of the two major economic zones, the index provides standardized tools for weather-sensitive enterprises such as energy, power, agriculture, and tourism. (3) Guangzhou Futures Exchange stated that the next step will be to accelerate the development of weather derivatives such as temperature index futures and options, and promote weather risk management from pilot projects to normalized and standardized services.
