[World Meteorological Organization: Hottest Year on Record Expected in the Next Five Years] The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) stated on the 28th that there is an 86% probability that a year between 2026 and 2030 will surpass the temperature of 2024, becoming the hottest year on record. A new report commissioned by the WMO and released that day by the UK Met Office indicates that global average temperatures over the next five years are likely to remain at or near record highs. Between 2026 and 2030, the global near-surface average temperature is highly likely (91% probability) to temporarily exceed pre-industrial levels by more than 1.5°C in at least one year, and the five-year average temperature is very likely (75% probability) to exceed pre-industrial levels by more than 1.5°C.
