[Korea's PKC Expands Semiconductor Chlorine Gas Production Capacity at Gunsan Plant by 50%] ⑴ South Korean chemical company PKC has launched an expansion project for its Gunsan plant's semiconductor chlorine gas production capacity, increasing it by 50%. ⑵ Annual production capacity will increase from the current 1,400-1,500 tons to 2,100-2,200 tons. ⑶ This investment, amounting to tens of billions of won, was decided after prior consultation with Samsung Electronics. ⑷ The expansion is driven by surging demand for etching gases required for high-density NAND flash memory stacking and Samsung Electronics' request to increase the supply of hydrogen chloride. Hydrogen chloride is commonly used in semiconductor wafer cleaning and etching processes; it is generated by the reaction of chlorine and hydrogen.
