[Iran Strongly Condemns US Attack on Bandar Abbas] Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghae issued a statement today (May 28) strongly condemning the US military attack on parts of the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas in the early hours of the day. He stated that this act was a blatant violation of Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and a serious breach of international law and the UN Charter. Baghae pointed out that the UN Security Council has a responsibility to fulfill its legal obligations and hold the US accountable. Baghae also stated that since the US-Iran ceasefire agreement took effect in April, the US has continuously violated the ceasefire. He further condemned recent "threatening rhetoric" made by US officials against Iran and some regional countries, and expressed solidarity with Oman. He stated that threatening to "destroy" a UN member state that has long played a constructive role in regional peace and security and has actively participated in diplomatic mediation for many years not only violates the fundamental principle of international law "prohibiting the use of force or the threat of force," but also reflects the dangerous trend of "illegal acts and hegemonism becoming increasingly normalized" in international relations.
