A WHO advisor pointed out that drugs currently under development for the treatment and prevention of Ebola virus infection should only be administered to users within the scope of clinical trials. This regulation means that those already infected or at risk of infection after exposure to the Ebola virus are unlikely to have direct access to these drugs. Because Ebola outbreaks are typically sporadic and mostly occur in remote areas, and because the virus is extremely deadly, the development of Ebola drugs has long faced significant challenges.
