[South Korea's foreign currency deposits rebounded in April, ending three consecutive months of decline] (1) Data released by the Bank of Korea on Friday showed that South Korea's foreign currency deposits totaled US$110.68 billion in April, an increase of US$8.51 billion from the previous month, ending a three-month decline. (2) By currency, US dollar deposits increased by US$7.68 billion to US$93.32 billion; euro deposits increased by US$260 million to US$6.57 billion; and yen deposits increased by US$400 million to US$8.22 billion. (3) Corporate foreign currency deposits increased by US$8.08 billion to US$94.88 billion, while individual holdings increased by US$430 million to US$15.8 billion. The Bank of Korea stated that the increase in US dollar deposits was mainly due to an increase in funds deposited into securities accounts and intended for investment in stocks.
