[Removal of Spent Fuel from Unit 2 of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to Begin Next Month] Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) announced on the 28th that it will begin removing remaining spent fuel from the fuel pool of Unit 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in early next month. The plan is expected to take more than two years to complete, and TEPCO stated that it will "proceed with caution." Affected by the combined impact of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, the cores of Units 1 through 3 of the six units at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant melted down, forming approximately 880 tons of nuclear debris. This debris is highly radioactive, and its removal is considered the biggest challenge in the decommissioning process of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. (CCTV News)
